omega fatty acids

last night I saw Sufjan Stevens at the Blind Pig with Jon. Sufjan was awesome, the Blind Pig sucks, and so did most of the people near me at the show. more on that in a moment. here is the setlist, which I was proud of myself for remembering (with a little help from Jon):

Opey's Funeral Song
This One Goes Out to the One I Love (REM cover)
The Upper Peninsula
Romulus
To Be Alone With You
Borderline
For the Widowless in Paradise, For the Fatherless in Ypsilanti
He Woke Me Up Again
In the Devil's Territory
Tecumseh
Chicago

so, at the show, all of these people were talking, loudly, during Sufjan's set. what I want to know is why do you go to a show and make a point to not listen and make noise so others are unable to hear? there was a woman in front of me who wouldnt stop talking to her friend, I got her life story (the friend, by the way, didn't say a word the whole time). there were two guys standing next to Jon who were yelling about omega fatty acids and why the Japanese were thinner than Americans. they also made sure to note 'that guy's playing his banjo', at this point Sufjan was playing his third and final banjo song, all of which had been prefaced by him stating that he would play his banjo for a few songs. I don't think I'm going to hurry back to the Blind Pig.

it seems that some of these same people were also at the graduate library (what I like to affectionately refer to as the GLi) today while I was trying to study for my calc 4 exam tomorrow. I had been in my carrell for a while when i heard the door to the next one fly open, slam shut, with the subsequent sound of a computer loudly thunked down and plugged in, a glass bottle opened, gulped from, and thrown down on the table, and numerous plastic vibrations followed by loud cell phone conversations. the nice thing was that when his phone rang, he threw the door open, and proceeded to walk up and down the hallway outside the carrells while talking to his buds. I'm not sure if the point here was to annoy the largest amount of people, or to just get some exercise. he was also nice enough to sigh and groan while typing loudly.

you'd think that people who go to a show to hear music, or to a library for quiet, would understand that others are there for the same reason. it amazes me that people can lack the courtesy to at least to try to behave in a manner that does not offend or distract others.

enough ranting.

2 exams tomorrow, 1 tuesday, 1 wednesday, move-out wednesday and thursday, Cumberland Gap friday!

later,
gluck
